The research project „Auf die Zeichnung, fertig los: Sketching macht Schule“ focuses on the importance of drawing and the visual language of pupils on the path of aesthetic literacy and personality development. Changing childlike visual languages, added value of drawing in the context of emotional development, general learning ability and motivation are examined.
The implementation of „artistic sketchbooks“ by the team of researchers enables pupils to practice their individual, unique visual language and leaves behind a portfolio of artistic development. In aesthetic learning, according to another basic thesis, the basis for the other learning processes is laid.
Through interviews with pupils and teachers and an in-depth document analysis of the sketchbooks, the team of researchers receives qualitative and quantitative data that are to be compared with existing scientific findings and discussed with national and international experts. The knowledge process leads to an editorial volume that makes the meaning and value of drawing for children, parents and teachers alike, accessible and usable in a new way.
This project builds on the predecessor project on SCHOOL@MUL 1.2 (https://www.ph-online.ac.at/kphgraz/wbLDB.detailLeistung?pOrgNr=1&pIdentNr=&pLstNr=784) and will be further developed in the following areas and contents
– Ongoing expansion and testing of the workshop programme and the number of visits for primary school classes in cooperation with the school supervisory authorities
– Integration and evaluation of LeLeO in teacher training at the KPH Graz (e.g. by means of a compulsory optional subject)
– Development and evaluation of further training courses offered by the KPH Graz for teachers in LeLeO
– Establishment of cooperation with companies in the region that are involved in the LeLeO programme as additional mediators of job descriptions etc.
– Establishment of an accompanying programme for families and thus increased involvement of parents as well
– Extension of LeLeO services to the under-6 age group through cooperation with an educational institution for elementary education, taking into account the issue of transition between kindergarten and primary school
– Continued impact research and description of the model for dissemination or transfer to other sites
Strategic goals:
1. promoting emotional and social skills (emotive knowledge, emotional expression, self-regulation, empathy, pro-social behaviour, shaping peer relationships, conflict management)
2. raising awareness of violence and (cyber)bullying and its effects
A site-specific development process is initiated to achieve the objectives. This process is divided into two strands:
1. implementation of a site-specific school development process to promote psychosocial health and (cyber)bullying prevention. In the course of this process, participatory measures are accompanied, planned and implemented by experts with the aim of expanding action competence at the school location.
2. implementation of training (ELLA Schule) to promote emotional and social skills (Basic Level I) and measures to prevent violence and bullying (Basic Level II).
