Perception – Expression – Regulation of aversive emotions in ages 4-7
With the focus on the child, this project pursues the goal of exploring connections between aspects of emotional development and the closely related ability to regulate emotions among children 4 to 7 years of age.
The aim is to obtain up-to-date data on the development of sub-skills that are useful for the regulation of excessive aversive emotional reac-tions (rage/anger). To this end, differences between groups (girls vs. boys, kindergarteners vs. students in first grade of primary school, cul-tural differences, etc.) are investigated.
Evidence of links between emotional development and emotional regu-lation and in-depth knowledge of predictors (in terms of which skills/abilities precede socially appropriate emotional regulation) can provide pedagogical guidance to help children acquire socially adequate regulatory strategies for controlling their own aversive emotions.
